Threadless Announces New Printing Options

You didn’t have to be psychic to see this coming, especially if you look how well adopted these techniques are at DBH. Be interesting to see how the designers react to the new loss of constraints. la Fraise has some of these options, but I’m not seeing them in the winning prints. I think this is because of the la Fraise style is sort of fixed and its takes some time to get your head around the new options.

From the newsletter:

“Before today, most chosen designs were printed with plastisol inks, some with a chino additive and a few with water-based or discharge inks. Starting today, designers can now use up to 8 colors, specify super glow, puff, high density, suede, UV color change, shimmer, metallic clear, glitter, blister, flock, vinyl, foils, embroidery, gradients, simulated process and even belt printing. Here’s a PDF explaining in detail each of the new capabilities.”

And my shirt pick of the week:

Music Snob by Spencer Fruhling. I love my lanyard we made for a music festival here in Leipzig which has made up music genres on it like “Speed Gospel” “Detached House” “Progressive Karaoke”.

Yeah, a pretty predictable move. But that doesn’t mean it’s bad! DBH prices their shirts differently depending on special printing/embroidery/etc., but Threadless makes no mention of that. I’m guessing their volume is high enough to absorb the cost.

I just hope this doesn’t impact to negatively on the dbh kids. i like their set up - even if their site does load slowly.
